St Mirren have launched an investigation into Kevin van Veen and Jaden Brown’s conduct after the pair were involved in separate court cases.
The club has confirmed that neither player will be available for this weekend’s Premiership game against Ross County.
Dutch forward Van Veen appeared in court on Thursday over an alleged three-year campaign of abuse against his ex-girlfriend, including violent and psychological attacks.
The reported abuse is said to have taken place between September 1, 2021, and July 28, 2024, at various addresses in Uddingston, Inverclyde, and Bridge of Weir, as well as on a trip to Cancun, Mexico.
The 33-year-old former Motherwell and Kilmarnock striker joined St Mirren on loan from Eredivisie side Groningen in the summer.
He has made five appearances for the Paisley side this season.
A statement released by the club on Friday said: “St Mirren Football Club is aware of a court appearance and ongoing criminal investigation into Kevin van Veen.
“The club will conduct its own investigation into this matter, and Kevin will not be available for Saturday’s match.
“We will make no further comment during this process.”
Jaden Brown was also in court on Thursday, and he admitted three charges under the Road Traffic Act.
The 25-year-old, who also joined the Saints in the summer, was caught driving while disqualified and without insurance, having been banned by a court.
He initially faced seven charges, including attempting to pervert the course of justice, but the Crown accepted his not guilty pleas to four charges.
The defender is due to return to court for sentencing on November 29.
St Mirren said: “St Mirren Football Club was aware of Jaden Brown’s court appearance yesterday (Thursday October 31).
“Given the findings of the court, the club requires to further its own ongoing investigation into the player’s actions. Jaden will not be available for Saturday’s match.
“We shall make no further comment at this point.”
The incidents come after a third summer signing, Shaun Rooney, left the club by mutual consent after being charged with assaulting a teenager in a takeaway in Glasgow.
Rooney had been suspended last month after police confirmed that he had been arrested and charged in connection with an assault on an 18-year-old woman.
He is yet to appear in court.
