The Buddies will take on either Go Ahead Eagles or SK Brann if they can knockout Valur in the second qualifying round.
The Paisley side face the Icelandic team in Reykjavík on Thursday, and the second leg at The SMiSA Stadium will be held on Thursday, August 1.
The winners of the tie will go on to the third qualifying round.
St Mirren last competed in continental competition when they played in the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup in the 1987-88 season. A 1-0 win over Tromso in the first round was followed by a 2-0 defeat to Mechelen.
