Stephen Robinson reckons there is much more to come from Conor McMenamin after the winger managed 45 minutes in St Mirren’s goalless draw with Ross County.

McMenamin required patella tendon surgery after suffering a reoccurrence of an injury on international duty, ruling the influential playmaker out of Saints’ Europa Conference League fixtures.

He played a role from the bench in the Buddies’ defeat to Rangers and victory over St Johnstone, however, was on the pitch for his longest stint this season in the draw against the Staggies.

The St Mirren boss admits that the Northern Ireland international has returned to action less prepared than he would like, with a lack of numbers in their squad preventing the ability to organise bounce games.

“The hard bit for Conor is he’s had no practice games. Greg (Kiltie) had three bounce games before we put him in, with Conor there has been none.

“We don’t have enough the numbers to play bounce games at the moment – it’s difficult with the youth team games going on and the Youth Cup.

“Conor has done well and worked ever so hard. He’s different from what we’ve got, he gives us width and puts lots of crosses into the box.

“He can change the course of a game, there will be more to come and that’s the same with Greg and the other players coming back from injury.”

St Mirren will take on Hibernian at Easter Road in their final fixture before the international break.

After the exertions of three games in seven days, Robinson will afford his players some respite before aiming to register an important result against the bottom side in the William Hill Premiership.

He added: “We’ll have a day off on Monday. We’ve got a minimal amount of players to select from, especially defensively.

“We need everyone fighting fit, ready to go to finish up for the international break and potentially be in the top six.”

Don Cowie admitted he thought Ross County were about to finally end their long wait for an away victory as they pressed late on against St Mirren.

There were chances for Ronan Hale and Jordan White as the Staggies pressed for a winner in a game low in attacking quality.

The last time County won on the road – a 1-0 victory over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park – came in September 2023.

“I thought we grew into the game, as you always need to do,” Cowie said.

“As the second half went on, I thought we had a couple of good opportunities and that we were going to get that goal to end the away run that I keep getting reminded about.”
