Cove Rangers have been sanctioned by the SPFL for using an ineligible player in two of their League Cup group games.

The League One side named Grady McGrath in their starting line-up for their games against Spartans and Forfar Athletic while he was serving a two-match suspension.

Cove lost 5-0 to Spartans and drew 1-1 with Forfar before losing the penalty shootout for a bonus point in a result that has now been rescinded.

Forfar have been awarded a 3-0 victory and three points for that match with Cove having their point deducted following a disciplinary hearing on Friday.

The club admitted breaching SPFL Rules and Regulations by playing the player in the matches while he was serving a two-match Scottish FA suspension.

At the tribunal a cub-committee of the board of the SPFL imposed sanctions including a fine of £1,000, of which £750 is suspended until June 30, 2025, pending any further breaches of SPFL player regulations.

Cove have also been reprimanded and warned as to future conduct with the League Cup Group E being amended to show a 3-0 win for Forfar.
