The sale of tickets for Scotland’s upcoming World Cup qualifying match against Denmark has been halted after a “technical error”, the Scottish FA confirmed.
Steve Clarke’s side take on the Danes in Copenhagen on September 5, and Scotland Supporters Club (SSC) members purchased tickets on Tuesday morning.
The tickets had been reserved for those with 32-21 supporters’ points.
However, the SFA released a statement revealing that a technical error had occurred during the sale, allowing some SSC members to purchase tickets for the match despite not having accumulated enough points.
They confirmed that, in the “interest of fairness”, all purchases made on Tuesday will be cancelled and refunded.
A new ticket sale for the crucial qualifier will take place from 10am on Wednesday.
Scotland start their World Cup campaign against Denmark before travelling to Belarus, and then hosting Greece at Hampden.
The Tartan Army will then be able to cheer on Scotland against Belarus in Glasgow in October, before Steve Clarke’s side travel to Greece. They then end the group campaign by hosting Denmark on November 18.
A spokesperson for the SFA said: “The Scottish FA is aware of a technical error that occurred during this morning’s ticket sale for the upcoming FIFA World Cup Qualifying match against Denmark, which allowed purchase by some Scotland Supporters Club (SSC) members who were not eligible during the window that was reserved for those with 32-21 Points.
“As a result, we will regrettably need to restart the sales process from scratch in the interest of fairness, with any purchase that was made today being cancelled and refunded.
“The new sale will commence at 10am on Wednesday, July 23, with a full schedule listed below.
“The Scottish FA would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused to supporters.”
