Scottish FA and SPFL bring in pay deferrals for senior figures

The governing bodies have taken action to deal with the impact of the coronavirus outbreak.

Scotland manager Steve Clarke and senior figures at the Scottish FA and SPFL have taken wage cuts as Scottish football deals with the impact of the coronavirus shutdown.

STV has learned the heirarchy at Hampden are to take the most significant cuts as measures are introduced to mitigate the damage of the current situation.

Clarke has taken a 10% pay cut, while SFA president Rod Petrie and vice-president Mike Mulraney are taking a 20% pay cut with immediate effect and their remaining salary is to be deferred for three months.

SPFL chairman Murdoch McLennan is accepting the same reduction in salary.

Half of SFA staff have been furloughed with some staff taking a 10% pay cut. SPFL staff have taken a similar cut.

Some league employees are also waiving pay increases and bonuses that can account for a significant part of their income.

The governing bodies have set up a Joint Response Group to deal with the issues facing the game.

While games at all levels have been postponed and there is no prospect of a return to action soon clubs are still facing expenses and fears have been expressed about the impact of the shutdown.

The SPFL have paid out some league prize money early and the SFA advanced clubs the funds that were to be paid for Club Licensing and academies.
