Bain moved to Bairns so son could get chance to watch him play regularly

Getting the chance of working with manager John McGlynn was also a big factor in the goalkeeper's move.

Scott Bain says giving his son and wife-to-be a chance to watch him play regular first-team football again was a big motivation in swapping Celtic for Falkirk.

The goalkeeper still had a year left on his Hoops contract, but had fallen way out of the picture regarding opportunities to start with Kasper Schmeichel and Viljami Sinisalo.

So he decided to move on and has now signed for newly promoted Falkirk and is excited to see his family at games again.

He also cited the influence of John McGlynn, and how well the club is run, for choosing to move to the Bairns.

Speaking to STV Sport, he said: “I think I was getting to the age now, where if I stayed on at Celtic for another year, as much as I loved being there and loved the club, I would have been another year older and it would have been harder to get back to playing regular football.

“A big thing for me was for my fiancé and little boy potentially getting the chance to come and watch me play, which will be a different experience for them than it’s been for the last couple of years.

“So that was a big factor, as was getting the chance to come to Falkirk and work under the manager and the staff here.

“Seeing how well the club is run, was another big factor in me coming here.”

After making the move from Dundee in 2018, Bain spent over six years at Parkhead and was part of a squad that won seven league titles and a historic quadruple-treble.

And he now hopes he can use that experience to help Falkirk in their first season back in the top-flight for 15 years.
