Scottish youngster Calum Scott ground out a final-round 76 to hold on and win the Silver Medal as the leading amateur at the Open.
The 20-year-old dropped five shots on the back nine as he closed on eight over par at Royal Troon, but it was still enough to beat Denmark’s Jacob Skov Olesen and American Tommy Morrison by three strokes.
Spain’s Luis Masaveu, the only other amateur to make the cut, finished on 18 over.
Scott, who hails from Nairn, some 200 miles from Troon, said: “I’m super happy, excited, buzzing. It’s one of the highest honours you can win as an amateur.”
Scott, who currently attends Texas Tech University, does not intend to bring forward his ambitions of turning professional as a result of his victory.
He said: “I’ve obviously got a year left at college so I’ll see where that puts me.”
