Scotland’s Aileen McGlynn has won silver in the Women’s B 1000m Time Trial at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

Piloted by Helen Scott, McGlynn, 48, and from Glasgow, finished in a time of 1:06.743 despite only training together for 12 weeks in the lead up to the Games.

It is a second medal for the Scottish athletes on Paralympics GB after Aberdeen’s Toni Shaw won a medal in the S9 400m freestyle – the first British athlete to enjoy success in the pool in Tokyo.

Reacting to the result, director of high performance at Sportscotland, Mike Whittingham, said: “Once again Aileen has delivered on the global stage with a dominant performance to bring home the silver medal.

“It was a remarkable effort from Aileen and her pilot Helen Scott, who have made history with this result.

“Aileen has enjoyed a glittering career and the whole country is proud of her, her coaches and of course everyone at both British and Scottish Cycling.”
