Scotland v Greece: Steve Clarke names team for World Cup qualifier at Hampden

Scotland are preparing for their first home match of the qualification campaign.

Steve Clarke has named his side to face Greece in the crucial World Cup qualifier at Hampden.

The national team is looking to take another step towards next year’s finals, and build on the four points earned against Denmark and Belarus last month.

Scotland sit second in the Group C table after those first two games but now go up against a Greece side who comfortably won 3-0 at Hampden in the Nations League earlier this year.

Clarke has settled on his starting XI for the first match of the qualification double-header, with Belarus visiting Glasgow on Sunday.

Angus Gunn starts in goal behind a back four of captain Andy Robertson, Grant Hanley, John Souttar and Aaron Hickey.

Lewis Ferguson, Scott McTominay and John McGinn form a midfield trio, with Ryan Christie and Ben Gannon Doak playing in support of striker Che Adams.

Speaking ahead of the match, Clarke said: “We are focused and determined, the players understand that every game in the qualification campaign is really important to get as many points as possible.

“Obviously, we managed to pick up four points from two away games last month, and we’d like to pick up as many as we can this month that would put us into a good place in November.

“The players understand what they have to do.”
