Scotland’s defining Euro 2020 match against Croatia is under way at Hampden.

A win will see the national team qualify for the knockout stages of a major tournament for the first time.

But anything less than three points will bring a shuddering halt to Scotland’s hopes of progressing in the competition.

Scotland are without midfielder Billy Gilmour – the man of the match against England on Friday – after he tested positive for Covid-19.

Steve Clarke picked Stuart Armstrong to replace the Chelsea youngster, with the rest of Friday’s team retaining their place.

Scotland team in full: Marshall, O’Donnell, McTominay, Hanley, Tierney, Robertson, McGregor, McGinn, Armstrong, Dykes, Adams.

Before the game, Clarke told STV: “It was so important to get something out of the England, getting that has kept everybody alive.

“We had been criticised in certain quarters about celebrating a point. It was important we went to the Tartan Army, they never stop supporting the team, they always kept the lads going, all you could hear was Scottish voices singing songs and it was important we acknowledged that fact.

“My message to the Tartan Army that will be in Hampden will be that sometimes football can go against you in a match and that’s when you need the crowd.

“We will need the Tartan Army behind us from the first minute to last on Tuesday and that will be extremely important for us.

“It’s going to be a big occasion, basically a cup final for both teams, both teams have to win.

“I have a little feeling that at some stage in the game tactics could go out the window and it could become a little bit like an open basketball game end to end as both teams chase the winner.

“It will be a tough game, but I am sure Croatia will expect a tough game from us.”
