Scotland squad: Gregor Townsend names uncapped trio in Autumn Test selectionSNS Group

The Scotland squad for the upcoming Autumn Tests has been announced, with head coach Gregor Townsend calling up three uncapped players among his 45-man selection.

Liam McConnell, Harri Morris and Alexander Masibaka have been handed a chance to earn their first caps, with Morris and McConnell only having been part of Emerging Scotland teams last year, and Masibaka having toured last year without seeing any action.

Scotland will face the USA, New Zealand, Argentina and Tonga on consecutive weekends at Murrayfield, starting with the clash against the Americans on November 1.

Townsend has named 27 forwards and 18 backs, with Sone Tuipulotu returning to the squad as captain.

Zander Fagerson and Rory Darge are included, though neither is back in full training yet, and Edinburgh Rugby captain Magnus Bradbury returns after a long absence, looking to win his first Scotland cap since the 2022 tour to Argentina.

Townsend said he was eagerly anticipating the chance to see his team in action again.

“It’s been a while for us as coaches since the summer tour, and a lot of our group, like the guys who went on the Lions tour, we haven’t worked on since the Six Nations,” Townsend said.

“It’s always an exciting period for us to get back in it with the group, and we have four weeks together and four test matches.”

Since the last tour, Townsend has signed a contract extension that sees him remain in charge until after next year’s World C,up and he believes some of his squad will rise to their best levels in that time.

“It’s always a real pleasure and privilege to stay on for another season,” he said. “It’s an exciting time with the squad, which has grown over the last few years, and a lot of players are now coming to their prime years.

“The group has played a lot of matches together and I love working with the coaches and players.

“It’s a huge privilege to be leading Scotland again.”
