Scotland captain Andy Robertson has dropped out of the squad for Tuesday’s match against France after suffering a shoulder injury in the defeat to Spain.

The Liverpool defender joins Brentford’s Aaron Hickey in leaving Steve Clarke’s party ahead of the friendly in Lille after colliding with Unai Simon in the first half of the 2-0 reverse in Euro 2024 qualifying.

It means a maiden call up for Sturm Graz full back Max Johnston, who has impressed in the Austrian Bundesliga since joining from Motherwell in the summer.

The 19-year-old made his Europa League debut in the win over Rakow Częstochowa last month and played in the Champions League qualifying loss to PSV Eindhoven.

He earned his fifth cap for the under-21 side in the 3-1 win over Hungary at Fir Park on Friday and was due to line up against Malta on Monday before receiving Clarke’s call.

Scotland’s place in Germany next summer was secured on Sunday evening following Spain’s win against Norway in Oslo.

The Tartan Army face Georgia away in November, before rounding off the campaign against the Norwegians at Hampden.
