Scotland boss needs experience in his ranks, insists Graeme Souness

New Scotland boss Sébastien Pocognoli will announce his first squad at Hampden on Tuesday

Sébastien Pocognoli needs experience in his ranks, insists former Scotland midfielder Graeme Souness.

On Tuesday, the new national team boss will name his first squad since being appointed ahead of the upcoming Nations League B fixtures.

Former captain Scott Brown believes the Belgian will opt for youth, but fellow ex-skipper Graeme Souness insists the 39-year-old “can’t go wholesale young”.

Speaking ahead of the squad being released, he said: “A manager has got to get results. If he goes down that road and loses the first three games, they’ll be calling for his head.

“A manager has got to introduce the ones he thinks have got a chance, but at the same time win football matches.

“So, you can’t just go wholesale young, you’ve got to mix it up, bring them on, give them a good half an hour, see how they deal with it. That’s the job of an international manager. It’s not easy.”

Scotland will take on Slovenia, Switzerland and North Macedonia in Group E.
