Martin and Tavernier speak to media ahead of Champions League qualifier

Rangers will take on Panathinaikos in their first competitive game under the new manager on Tuesday.

Rangers head coach Russell Martin and captain James Tavernier are speaking to the media ahead of their first Champions League qualifier.

The Ibrox club host Greek side Panathinaikos in Glasgow on Tuesday in what will be their first competitive game of the new season.

It will also be Martin’s first game in the Rangers dugout other than pre-season friendlies.

Earlier on Monday, they learned that if they get past Panathinaikos, they will face a trip to the Czech Republic or Switzerland in the third round of qualifiers.

The winners of the Viktoria Plzen and Servette will be next up in their quest towards the holy grail of the Champions League.

However, if they are knocked out by the Athens club, then they have been handed a tough Europa League draw against either Besiktas from Turkey or Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk.

The second, and ultimately decisive return leg of the game against Panathinaikos will take place in Athens next Wednesday.
