Russell Knox facing uphill task to retain PGA Tour card going into season finale

Scotland’s Russell Knox faces an uphill task to retain his PGA Tour card heading into the final event of the season.

The RSM Classic at Sea Island is the last opportunity for players to move into the top 125 on the FedEx Cup standings and secure full playing privileges for 2024.

Knox begins the week ranked 146th and the two-time PGA Tour winner, whose last victory came in 2016, needs to finish outright third or better to avoid losing his card.

The Inverness-born 38-year-old has missed the cut in 12 of his 27 events in 2023, recording a best finish of tied-28th in the Sanderson Farms Championship in October.

Open champion and world number nine Brian Harman is the top-ranked player in the field and a Sea Island resident, but the left-hander admits he will be rusty on his first start since the Ryder Cup.

Harman, who won two points from four matches on his debut in Rome, said: “We haven’t been working as hard as we probably should have.

“Been taking advantage of this off-season, trying to rest up and heal up and trying to get a little stronger in the gym, trying to grab that little bit of improvement where I can.

“Some of the commitments [since winning The Open], there’s been a lot of obligations, which I’m happy to do.

“It’s just my time management’s had to get a little bit better, I’ve had to just compartmentalise and figure out where I’m going to be at certain times and really trying to take advantage of what I’m doing at the current time.”
