Matchday two of the League Cup group stages got under way on Tuesday with 30 teams in action throughout Scotland.

There were 15 games played as the journey towards Hampden continues in the early stages of the 25/26 campaign.

The competitive season got under way on Saturday, July 12, when the tournament kicked off.

Every team in the top four SPFL divisions, outside of last season’s top five Premiership teams, and three from the Highland and Lowland leagues have been split into eight groups of five.

Three top-flight sides were in action on Tuesday, with Hearts, Motherwell, and St Mirren all recording victories over lower league opposition.

The Tynecastle club made it two wins from two, and eight goals scored in the process, under new head coach Derek McInnes, with a comfortable 4-0 rout of Hamilton.

Motherwell scored late on to complete a 2-1 comeback win over Peterhead to give their new boss, Jens Berthel Askou, his first victory since taking the reins in the summer.

And St Mirren beat Forfar 2-1 at Station Park thanks to goals from Jaden Richardson and Mikael Mandron.

Elsewhere, newly promoted League Two side East Kilbride pulled off the biggest shock of the round with a 4-2 away win at Raith Rovers from the Championship.

Partick Thistle beat Stranraer 2-0 at Firhill, Ayr United scored six away at Annan, Queen’s Park won 5-0 at home to Brechin, Queen of the South beat Edinburgh City 4-0 and Inverness Caley Thistle ran out 2-0 winners over Elgin.

Ten man Cove Rangers beat Spartans 1-0, Dumbarton took all three points with a victory over Stirling Albion, Lowland League side Bonnyrigg Rose lost 3-1 at Airdrieonians, while Alloa and Greenock Morton both recorded wins over Montrose and Stenhousemuir respectively.

Matchday two comes to an end with an all Premiership clash on Wednesday night when Kilmarnock host Livingston at Rugby Park.

Cup holders Celtic, Rangers, Aberdeen, Hibernian and Dundee United all enter the competition at the second round.

The final will be played at Hampden Park on December 14.
