Hibernian head coach Jack Ross feels his side have recovered their form in recent games despite suffering two defeats in just over a week.

The Easter Road side lost all four games they played in October before a Covid outbreak forced them to sit out two fixtures. Since then a win over Rangers at Hampden booked a place in the League Cup final but Premiership results have been inconsistent with defeats to Ross County and Rangers either side of a victory over St Johnstone.

Ross feels that despite the points return, his side have turned a corner in terms of performances and that was on display in the 1-0 loss to Rangers on Wednesday.

“Since the Covid-enforced break we’ve looked like a better team,” he said. “We look a strong team again.

“We’ve had a mixed bag in terms of results – two wins and two defeats – but I think we’ve got a strong case to say we shouldn’t have lost the two we lost.

“Players are generally quite honest and understanding of where they’re at so I’ve got a group who are really disappointed because they know they should have taken something from the Rangers game but they also understand that as a team they look pretty strong at the moment, and that gives us encouragement.

“We’ve got to turn that into a consistent run of results again though to push us back up the table.”

Hibs now look to this weekend’s home match against Motherwell to begin that run, and they should be boosted with the return of Christian Doidge.

The striker has now served a two-game ban after his red card against Ross County and after illness ruled him out of a bounce game earlier this week, Ross expects him to be fully fit for the weekend.
