Ross County relegated from Championship after Raith defeat

Ross County were relegated from the William Hill Championship after being beaten 3-2 by Raith, while champions St Johnstone enjoyed a victory over Ayr.

The Staggies suffered back-to-back relegations after their six-year stay in the Premiership was ended with a play-off defeat last season.

Their survival hopes had been kept alive 16 minutes into Friday’s match when Kieran Phillips headed home from Noah Chilvers’ pinpoint delivery.

Raith then replied with two goals in the space of four minutes from Innes Cameron and Jack Hamilton before late drama saw Jayden Carbon equalise in the sixth minute of stoppage time.

However, former County midfielder Josh Mullin converted from the penalty spot only two minutes later to confirm the Staggies’ place in League One next season after they ended the season bottom of the table.

St Johnstone completed their title-winning campaign 11 points clear at the summit with a 1-0 win over Ayr.

Kai Fotheringham’s first half effort was the difference to secure a fifth straight Championship win for the Saints, who will be playing in the top flight next season.

Airdrieonians finish in the relegation play-off spots after drawing 1-1 with Morton.

Airdrie had taken the lead only three minutes into the second half through Euan Henderson, but they were handed a blow when Lewis Strapp was shown a red card only 11 minutes later.

Curtis Main drew level for Morton to end their season only two points above ninth-placed Airdrie.

Second-placed Partick Thistle drew 1-1 with Queen’s Park after Michael Ruth’s penalty cancelled out Tony Watt’s opener.

Elsewhere, a clash between promotion play-off rivals Dunfermline and Arbroath ended goalless.
