Hibs defender Rocky Bushiri says he has held initial talks with David Gray about his future at the club but has no concrete offer to extend his contract yet.
The centre-back was out of favour earlier in the season but has played a crucial role in the team’s reurgence in recent months.
With Bushiri’s existing contract at Easter Road expiring at the end of the summer, that’s led to speculation about his future, and whether he will be a part of Gray’s, and the club’s long-term plan.
The DR Congo international said there wasn’t any clarity yet but that he is open to remaining in Leith.
“If I’m honest, I don’t know what the future looks like,” he said. “But I hope it’s a positive future.
“Could it be here at Hibs – why not? I’ve had talks with the club and the manager over the last few months. There hasn’t been an official offer yet, but we have had discussions.”
Bushiri was reportedly a signing target for club abroad during the January transfer window and would have options if he ran down his deal but he looked on the last few months of paying regularly and putting in strong performances as a position.
“I think it was clear [there was interest] in the last window,” he said. “But it was rejected by Hibs.
“It’s not always a bad thing when things get rejected, so we will see now what’s going to happen.
“It’s an important step now, but it has to be good for myself and for the club.”
While the decision has yet to be made on his future, the defender said he’s just aiming to keep improving, having found his stride after a stop-start spell.
“This season, and next season, I want to be another, better version of myself,” he said. “I want to keep growing and keep looking after my body and myself because I have struggled in the past with injuries and stuff.
“I just want to keep going.”
