Bojan Miovski hopes win over Hibs can build Rangers confidence

The striker scored what he hopes is 'the first of many' in the cup victory.

Rangers striker Bojan Miovski celebrated what he hopes is the ‘first of many’ goals for the club, and said he hopes the victory over Hibs can add confidence to the team.

Miovski pounced to score Rangers’ second goal in the 2-0 Premier Sports Cup quarter-final win over Hibs, and the victory eased some of the pressure on head coach Russell Martin after a poor start to the season.

The Ibrox club are now heading to Hampden, and will find out their opposition in Sunday’s draw. Miovski, who joined the club from Girona in the summer, believes the team can now start to look forward with optimism, beginning with this week’s Europa League clash with Genk at Ibrox.

“We had a good performance and it gives us confidence for the future,” the forward said.

“We have a lot of new players in the team. I was away with the national team, some of the other players as well. So we had a full week of training (last week) and we showed that we can play good football.

“Of course, we feel positive. It’s always nice when you play in Europe so we are really looking forward to Thursday.”

Saturday’s win came as fans protested outside Ibrox and called for head coach Martin and chief executive Patrick Stewart to be sacked. The protests took place as Martin was giving his team talk ahead of kick-off but Miovski said the players just have to keep focus and look to put things right on the pitch.

“We keep it, as a team, in the dressing room,” he said.

“We know that a lot of things are happening outside of the dressing room, but we need to stick together and focus on football and winning football games.”

Reflecting on his own contribution to what was a vital win, the North Macedonia striker said he will remain patient and focused to score plenty more in light blue.

“Of course, I’m happy. First of many. I will keep going,” Miovski said.

“We dominated the game, we pressed really well and we didn’t rush this final pass.

“We were a little bit more calm and, of course, we scored that first important goal and after the second we just stayed together.

“We had a couple of chances in the second half to kill the game but overall, we are happy with the performance.

“As a striker, you need to be always focused and patient because the teams are defending really deep. So I need to stay focused all the time.”
