Rangers have defeated St Mirren to stay two points behind Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

Antonio Colak continued his run of good form with a double in the 4-0 victory at Ibrox.

The Croatian scored the opening goal on his return to the starting line-up after being dropped for Alfredo Morelos in the defeat to Liverpool on Tuesday.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst also brought in Matondo, Scott Arfield, Ryan Jack and Fashion Sakala in the place of Leon King, Kent, Malik Tillman and Davis from the game at Anfield.

Colak made it 3-0 in the second to confirm the victory that resumes their two points gap to the league leaders and the fourth came from Sakala who marked his return to starting lineup with the icing on the cake in injury time.

Celtic beat St Johnstone 2-1 in the earlier kick-off thanks to a 94th minute winner from Giorgos Giakoumakis.

St Mirren move down to fourth following the defeat but could see themselves as low as sixth if Aberdeen and Hearts win their games on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men will now prepare to host Jurgen Klopp’s EPL giants in Glasgow on Wednesday in a last throw of the dice to keep their faint hopes of qualifying for the last 16 alive.
