Rangers have no interest in letting Djeidi Gassama leave Ibrox this month, despite an approach from Monaco that would have brought in a substantial fee.

Gassama has been one of the successes from last summer’s recruitment drive after joining on a fee from Sheffield Wednesday. He has remained a regular starter under Danny Rohl and scored his side’s third goal in the win over Dundee that closed the gap at the top of the table to just four points.

His form has attracted interest from elsewhere, and the 22-year-old has been linked with teams in Spain and the USA.

Monaco have approached Rangers with a firm bid though, offering to take Gassama on loan to the end of the season and then have an obligation to buy the player for an eight-figure sum.

Rangers have rejected the approach, insisting that they want to keep the player as they bid to come out on top in the title race.

The Ibrox club have already moved to strengthen Rohl’s hand this month, adding midfielder Tochi Chukwuani, left-back Tuur Rommens and winger Andreas Skov Olsen. An approach has also been made for Hansa Rostock striker Ryan Naderi but the German club are reluctant to let him go this month.
