UEFA have gifted Rangers a personalised pennant in recognition of the Ibrox club’s 150th anniversary.

The Premiership side revealed the gift as they were honoured with a celebratory reception from the UK Government.

The pennant, sent to Rangers by UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin, says “UEFA compliments Rangers on the occasion of the club’s 150th anniversary”.

An announcement on Tuesday revealed that secretary of state Alister Jack was to host the club at Dover House in Whitehall.

A tweet from Rangers said: “We will this evening be honoured with a celebratory reception from the UK Government at the Scotland Office to mark the 150th anniversary of the club.”

Attended by directors, staff, former players and a host of invited guests, the clubs said “it will be another prestigious moment in this special year”.

Managing director, Stewart Robertson, said: “We are very honoured and grateful to have been invited by the Secretary of State for Scotland to this very special event to mark the 150th anniversary of Rangers Football Club.

“I believe it speaks volumes for the contribution Rangers has made to our nation in a positive sense over these years that the club is being recognised in this manner, and we look forward to promoting the good name of Rangers even further this evening to invited guests from across the political spectrum, as well as wider society.”

The pennant gift comes just weeks after the Europa League finalists and the governing body of football in Europe where at loggerheads over the organisation of the final in Seville.

Among other complaints Rangers said fans were left distressed by a lack of drinking water inside the stadium as temperatures soared.

UEFA eventually issued an apology but quickly came under fire again after more organisational issues at the Champions League Final a week later.
