Rangers have announced that winger Oscar Cortes has moved to Huracan on loan for the remainder of the season, with the Argentine club holding an option to buy the player.
Cortes has failed to play regular first-team football at Rangers, and is not in head coach Danny Rohl’s plans as he looks to build his squad for the remainder of the title race and the challenges beyond that.
The Colombian initially moved to Glasgow on loan from French club Lens in January 2024. Though injury curtailed his progress in the second half of the season, the Ibrox side took Cortes on loan for another season with an obligation to buy.
The attacker failed to play any meaningful part over the season, restricted to just 11 appearances across all competitions, but became a permanent signing in a multi-million-pound deal last summer.
Cortes began this season in Russell Martin’s first team squad but was allowed to move to Spanish side Sporting Gijon on deadline day on what was intended to be a season-long loan.
The 22-year old has made only eight appearances for the Liga 2 side so far, and the decision has been taken to cut his move short and allow him to return to South America with the hope he will find regular football.
A brief message on Rangers’ X channel read: “We can today confirm that Oscar Cortes has been recalled from his loan with Sporting Gijon and will now join Argentine side Huracan on loan for their 2026 season with an option to buy.
“Everyone at Rangers wishes Oscar well for the year ahead.”
