Rangers have been fined almost £29,000 by UEFA over the conduct of their supporters in a recent Europa League match.

The governing body has found that fans’ behaviour broke two of their rules during the match against Red Star Belgrade in Serbia on March 17.

The Ibrox club were fined €5,000 over damage to Red Star’s stadium and have also been ordered to compensate the Belgrade club.

A second misconduct charge over the “throwing of objects” brought a €30,000 fine for the club. The fines were issued by UEFA’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body.

Rangers lost the match 2-1 on the night but progressed to the quarter-finals of the competition on aggregate.

The Scottish champions lost the first leg of their last eight tie against Braga in Portugal last week and will look to overturn the deficit at Ibrox on Thursday night.

The winner will progress to face RB Leipzig or Atalanta.
