Rangers is expected to complete a deal with Heart boss Derek McInnes in the next 48 hours, STV Sport understands.
Current Gers boss, Danny Rohl, is believed to be on the verge of taking over at Austrian giants RB Salzburg.
The Ibrox higher ups have identified former player McInnes as the candidate to replace the German coach who was hired in October.
It is understood that the Glasgow club and McInnes, who led Hearts to second place last season, are expected to agree a deal within the next 48 hours.
Rangers would pay a high six-figure sum in compensation if a deal is agreed with the 54-year-old Jambos boss.
McInnes would be reunited ex-Hearts captain Lawrence Shankland at Ibrox after the talismanic striker arrived in Glasgow for free.
