Rangers have defeated St Johnstone after going a goal down in Perth.

Former Ibrox winger Michael O’Halloran put the Saints ahead at the start of the second half, but a Kemar Roofe penalty brought the champions level seven minutes later.

Steven Gerrard’s men then went in front when captain James Tavernier scored from outside the box on the 71st minute.

That was enough to secure the three points in Saturday’s early Premiership clash at McDairmid Park.

The win puts Rangers top of the league and two points ahead of both Hearts and Hibs who play each other at Tynecastle tomorrow.

They are also six points ahead of rivals Celtic who play Ross County in Glasgow at 3pm on Saturday.
