Rangers' Champions League group stage schedule against Liverpool, Ajax and Napoli confirmed

Rangers begin their Champions League group stage campaign away to Ajax after UEFA confirmed the competition schedule.

The Ibrox side were handed a challenging group against Liverpool, Ajax and Napoli when the draw was made on Thursday evening.

Fans have had to wait until UEFA finalised kick-off times and dates across all eight groups but now know when and where their side will playing.

Rangers will now start preparing for the group opener in Amsterdam on September 7 with an early kick off time of 5.45pm.

That first game is followed by a test against Napoli at Ibrox a week later.

Matchdays three and four see Rangers face Liverpool in back to back games, with Jurgen Klopp’s side hosting the first game at Anfield on October 4 before the teams meet at Ibrox on October 12.

Rangers then travel to Italy to play in Naples on October 26 before wrapping up the group campaign at home to Ajax on November 1.

Rangers midfielder Scott Arfield believes all three opponents are exciting prospects but sees the matches against Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool as the pick of the bunch.

“The three of them are amazing, amazing cities, so we’re definitely looking forward to going to them, but the one that captures the attention is the Liverpool one because it’s closer to home and we know our following there is going to be sensational,” he said.

“That’s the one we’re probably looking forward to the most. They have been finalists for numerous years and they’re one of the best teams in the world, and now we can show what we’re all about.

“As always, we think we can be very competitive. It was a great draw for us with a lot of big dogs in there, which when you get to this stage of the competition there’s going to be.

“It’s an exciting draw for everybody and we want to be as competitive as possible.”
