Rangers have approached Sunderland over the possibility of loan deals for midfielder Dan Neil and winger Romaine Mundle.
The Ibrox side are looking to strengthen significantly in the January window as they aim to get the upper hand in the title race.
Head coach Danny Rohl has spoken about his need to add to the squad, with the club already close to deals for Sturm Graz midfielder Tochi Chukwuani and Westerlo left-back Tuur Rommens.
However, the club has been dealt a blow with news that Connor Barron will be out for up to three months, and that has increased the need for reinforcements.
Sunderland duo Neil and Mundle have been identified as targets and contact has been made between the clubs to discuss moves to take the pair to Glasgow for the remainder of the season.
Midfielder Neil is a product of the Sunderland academy and the 24-year-old has played oevr 200 games for the Black Cats. However, the former England Under-20 player has only made four appearances this season and could move in search of first team football.
Mundle, a 22-year-old winger, was at Spurs up to B team level but moved to Standard Liege in 2023. After a year in Belgium he moved to Sunderland and was part of the side that won promotion to the Premier League.
