Rangers made a double signing on deadline day and Celtic signed a winger but the Parkhead club are yet to sign a replacement for Adam Idah after the striker joined Swansea City.

A busy summer of transfer activity at Ibrox continued into deadline day with Rangers landing the £8m signing of 21-year-old striker Youssef Chermiti from Everton, as well as bringing in left-sided defender Derek Cornelius on loan from Marseille with an option to buy.

Rangers also confirmed the exit of striker Cyriel Dessers, who left to join Panathinaikos in a permanent deal.

Celtic finalised the sale of Republic of Ireland international Adam Idah to Swansea City but despite moves for players throughout the day, they failed to land a replacement before the deadline. However, Kelechi Iheanacho, who played under Brendan Rodgers at Leicester, negotiated his release from Sevilla on Monday and would be able to sign as a free agent.

The Parkhead club did make one late signing, confirming the arrival of Sebastian Tounekti on a five-year deal. Stephen Welsh was also allowed to leave on loan, joining Motherwell for the season, but Yang’s proposed move to Birminghamn City collapsed.

Aberdeen left it late but were able to announce the return of Scottish Cup winner Kevin Nisbet on a permanent deal, and a deal to sign Jesper Karlsson was also completed on Monday and confirmed after the deadline.

Hibernian worked throughout the day in an attempt to sign Scotland striker Lyndon Dykes but agreement on his wages meant a loan deal with Birmingham City couldn’t be struck.

City rivals Hearts had already made plenty of signings throughout the window and only announced one departure on deadline day as Musah Drammeh moved to the Portuguese second division.

St Mirren loaned Oisin Smyth to Partick Thistle for the season, meaning they were able to bring in the striker Stephen Robinson had been hoping for, and Dan Nlundulu joined from Bolton on a one-year deal just before 11pm.

Livingston brought in another midfield option, as former Spain and England youth international Mahamadou Susoho joined on loan from Manchester City.

And Falkirk also added a new face on deadline day, recruiting versatile defender Filip Lissah on loan from Swansea.
