Queen’s Park hero Calum Ferrie says the Championship side always believed they could get a good result from Ibrox before their historic victory on Sunday.
The Spiders produced one of the biggest upsets in living memory when they dumped Rangers out of the Scottish Cup with a dramatic 1-0 win.
Callum Davidson’s side will now take their place in the quarter-final alongside the likes of Celtic, Hibernian and Aberdeen.
Goalkeeper Ferrie saved an injury-time penalty from James Tavernier and was named man of the match after an impressive performance to thwart Philippe Clement’s men.
The 26-year-old former Dundee and Stirling Albion stopper said: “It was a good day, we all had belief we could get something from the game, but we knew a lot of things would have to go our way. You need a bit of luck in football and especially in a game like that.
“And luckily things went our way and we are into the next round of the cup.
“It’s not even really sunk in yet, it’s going to take a few days for the boys to realise what’s been accomplished.
“It’s just a great day for the club and the fans, ever since the club became professional a lot of things have changed.
“Obviously, the fanbase is not the 50 or 60,000 that Rangers and Celtic can attract every single week, but it is a strong fanbase who are with us through thick and thin and I hope they really enjoyed yesterday and I’m sure they will have.”
The draw for the quarter-finals will take place following St Mirren v Hearts on Monday night and Ferrie says they will be ready to take on anyone when it comes, but insists their full focus is now on Hamilton as they look to make their way up the Championship table.
He said: “We’ll take anyone really, we are just happy to be in the next round, as a team and as a squad we backed ourselves to get something out of that game and we did it, so we will see what happens in the next round.
“We’ll be tuning into the draw and I’ll be excited whoever it is.
“We all know we are a good squad, obviously our league form over the last few weeks hasn’t been as good as we want it to be but we are still just about in touch with the playoffs.
“Hopefully we can take that good cup result into the league and get a good performance against Hamilton this weekend.
“The league is our bread and butter and we will focus on the next cup game when that comes around.”
