“Proud” captain Callum McGregor hailed Celtic’s resilience after they came through some challenging moments to come out on top in an “amazing” League Cup final.
The Hoops won the game on penalties after a dramatic 3-3 draw with Rangers at Hampden Park on Sunday.
It was a nervy game for the 50,000 in attendance and thousands more watching at home. Two late goals took it to extra time before the dreaded penalty shootout.
But McGregor, who added another winner’s medal to his growing collection, insists there is no better way to win a final.
He said: “It was brilliant, probably no better way to win it than that, it was such a big pressure situation and the players stepped up and delivered.
“It was amazing, a really good cup game, and to win it on penalties, you kind of get that added feeling, so it’s fantastic for the group.
“Cup finals are always tight, when you look back through the years there hasn’t been many that we’ve won and been really comfortable.
“They are always tight and always edgy, especially when you play Rangers, who are a good team as well and brought a lot to the game and have a lot of quality as well.
“You have to do a lot right, you have to fight for it and in the difficult moments, you need to change the momentum of the game, and I think we did that really well.
“We can be really proud of ourselves that we produced the moments when we needed them.
“Mentality is massive; we have had a lot of good experiences in this fixture in recent years, which can help the group as well.”
