Rangers women’s team manager Jo Potter says she is “proud” of her players after the clinched the League Cup trophy with victory over Partick Thistle.
The SWPL leaders ran out 4-1 winners in the final held at Tynecastle on Sunday with goals from Mia McAuley, Rachel Rowe, Rio Hardy and Olivia McLoughlin.
Rachel Donaldson was on target for the Jags but it wasn’t enough for Brian Graham’s part-timers who fell at the last hurdle.
Potter says her side, who are now chasing a potential domestic treble, put in a performance “worthy” of winning the trophy.
Speaking after the game she said: “It’s tough to reflect on straight away, I think it was deserved. It’s a really proud moment for me and the players who have all worked really hard and bought into my way of playing this year.
“It would have been tough to ask for a complete shift in the style of play in the environment and culture I’m trying to create.
“I’m really proud of every single one of them that stepped out on to that pitch today and they’ve put in a performance that is worthy of winners.”
Partick Thistle captain Cara Henderson says the Maryhill side are “proud” of their achievements despite the disappointment of losing the game and insists they will learn from the experience.
She said: “It was just a really proud moment, I thought we gave a really good account of ourselves today and it was a really special day with all our friends and family in the crowd.
“It was a great experience, but obviously just really disappointed with the outcome.
“I think it’s where we want to be and I think we have shown this season that we can compete with the top-three and are good enough to be in the top-six and I think it was good learning curve.
“I wish it wasn’t this learning curve If I’m being honest, but we will learn from it and I know this group of girls will be back even better.”
