Philippe Clement has broken his silence on his departure from Rangers, thanking fans for their support and revealing his “frustration” over poor results.

The Belgian left his position as Rangers manager last week after a home defeat to St Mirren that had followed a humiliating Scottish Cup exit to Championship side Queen’s Park at Ibrox.

Clement paid the price for a season without domestic trophies and trailing rivals Celtic by 13 points in the Premiership at the time he left the club.

Results towards the end of his time in charge had seen supporters demand his sacking and angrily boo the manager and players following home defeats.

A week after his final exit form the club’s training ground, Clement has posted a message on social media saying he was disappointed he couldn’t deliver success but saying the good times he enjoyed would remain with him.

A post on Instagram read: “Dear Rangers,

“It has taken a few days to fully process and accept the end of my time with this exceptional club.

“I leave with a heavy heart, frustrated and disappointed that I couldn’t consistently bring the team to the level we all expected.

“I understand your frustrations, and I share them.

“We worked passionately, day and night, and while we faced challenges, I will never forget the many great moments we had together.

“Your unwavering support and the energy from the fans made those times truly special.

“In those moments, it felt like we were one big family.

“For that reason, Rangers will always hold a special place in my heart.

“Thank you. Philippe.”
