Clement says Rangers 'showed right mentality' in win over Hearts

Rangers took all three points from Tynecastle with a 3-1 victory on Sunday.

Philippe Clement praised the mentality of his Rangers side following their 3-1 Premiership win over Hearts at Tynecastle.

The game was the Ibrox side’s first since their Scottish Cup exit at the hands of Queen’s Park a week ago and they got back to winning ways with a 3-1 victory.

Clement’s side had to withstand periods of pressure before securing the three points with Jack Butland named man of the match following a string of big saves.

Hearts defender Jamie McCart scored two own goals with Vaclav Cerny adding the other as Rangers kept up their long unbeaten run against Hearts.

After the game the Belgian said: “The team showed the right mentality as a group, the players who started, the players who came in, in going into the fight which is necessary here.

“Also against a Hearts team that went full-in for the victory with an offensive playing style, lot of attacking players with good quality, and the team dug in and took the right moments.

“It’s a pity that two times (there was) a small offside – I didn’t see the images back, but I believe VAR is always right – so we almost scored two goals more in an away game, so that’s good.

“And the team showed the right mentality. Was it on the ball all the time with top quality like in our best games? Not today, but it was with the right mentality. And that needs to be the basics.”
