Ex-Rangers forward Peter Lovenkrands says his former club will be “itching” to get back out on the pitch and put the Old Firm defeat behind them.
Philippe Clement’s side lost 3-0 to Celtic in their last game before the international break in a result that leaves them in fourth place in the Premiership, five points behind their city rivals and Aberdeen.
And the Dane, who was a fan favourite at Ibrox between 2000-2006 after scoring 54 goals and winning two league titles, two Scottish Cups and three League Cups, insists the current squad will be desperate to get their season back on track.
The 44-year-old, who had spells at Schalke, Newcastle United and Birmingham City after leaving Glasgow, scored a dramatic late winner in a 3-2 Scottish Cup final win over Celtic in 2002.
He was also part of two title-winning sides that took it all the way to the last day of the season in the famous “helicopter Sunday” games.
So he knows as well as anyone that you can never write a team off so early in the season and says it’s all about bouncing back and starting to rack up the wins and points.
He said: “The players will be itching to get back out there and bounce back (from the defeat to Celtic).
“The main thing will be to just go out there and get a result and hopefully get themselves back on track.
“There will be a lot of things (that need changed) but it’s not for me to stand here and say what the coach has to do, that wouldn’t be fair. I’ve got my opinions but I’ll keep them to myself.
“It’s about bouncing back, the best way to get the fans back on side is to get results and get back to winning ways, so three points in the next game is all that matters.
“The fans will be there, like they always are, they will always come in their numbers so it’s just all about bouncing back and getting the win and getting back on track.”
Rangers take on Dundee United at Tannadice on Sunday as the Premiership returns following a two-week international break.
Lovenkrands was speaking at the Scottish Legends Golf Series at Loch Lomond.
