Peter Grant has left his position as Dunfermline manager after a 4-2 defeat against Arbroath continued the side’s winless start to the season.

The Pars after bottom of the Championship, with just seven points from 12 games. The team’s last win was a 4-1 win over Stenhousemuir in the League Cup on July 24.

Fans had been vocal in their unhappiness at the team’s direction and a statement from the board in early October backing Grant failed to quell anger from supporters, particularly as the run without a league victory continued.

Less than 24 hours after the defeat at Arbroath, the club announced Grant’s departure.

A statement read: “DAFC can confirm today that it has sadly parted company with manager, Peter Grant.

“We would like to place on record our thanks to Peter for his efforts, hard work and professionalism during his time at East End Park, and we wish him and his family every success in the future.

“A fresh robust recruitment process to find a replacement for Peter to lead our club forward will start immediately. In the meantime, Greg Shields and Steven Whittaker have agreed to lead the team on an interim basis, and they will be supported by Sports Director, Thomas Meggle.”
