Paraag Marathe steps down from Rangers vice-chairman post due to UEFA issue

Rangers vice-chairman Paraag Marathe has stepped down from the Ibrox club’s board due to UEFA regulations.

The businessman had been appointed to the board as Andrew Cavenagh’s right-hand man after the US takeover by Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises in May 2025.

However, alongside Gene Schneur, also on the Leeds board, it was announced on Friday that he has left his position at Rangers as part of boardroom changes.

It is understood this is down to the possibility of both Rangers and Leeds qualifying for the same European competition.

UEFA do not allow clubs in the same ownership group to play in the same European competition.

Should the scenario arise, the club that finishes lower in its league would be forced to withdraw from the competition.

The move will not affect the overall blueprint or the US consortium’s ownership of Rangers.
