Getty ImagesScottish para-athlete Melanie Woods has stormed to victory – and a Games record – again in the women’s T54 1500m after the race was restaged.
The 31-year-old had won gold and set a new Games record in the race on Wednesday.
But on Thursday morning, para-athletic authorities decided the race would be held again on Friday following appeals after a first-lap crash.
Canada’s Nandini Sharma finished in second behind Woods, but was disqualified and stripped of her silver medal for her role in the crash.
A protest and appeal from Team Canada were both rejected, while further appeals were made by Team Australia and Team Mauritius asking for the race to be held again, which were upheld.
However, Woods managed to replicate the magic of her first attempt, claiming gold and breaking the record yet again with a time of 3:32:20.
But there was heartbreak for England’s Ellis Kottas, who got silver in the race on Wednesday, as she finished in fourth place this morning.
Mauritanian athlete Noemi Alphonse scooped silver while Australia’s Eliza Ault-Connell got bronze.
