Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard’s participation in the Old Firm derby is in serious doubt with the player self-isolating in France after testing positive for coronavirus.

The French Football Federation announced on Tuesday night that Edouard has returned a positive result after testing by UEFA before his country’s Under-21 matches.

Edouard has said that he is feeling no serious effects from the virus, tweeting: “Thank you all for your messages of support ! I’m fine and I would come back stronger, Take care of yourself and your family.”

Though the quarantine rules in France state that the forward only has to remain isolated for seven days, Edouard will remain in place for ten days.

The 22-year-old will return to Scotland on October 16 and is a major doubt for Celtic’s home Premiership clash with Rangers a day later.

Edouard’s Celtic teammate Ryan Christie is certain to miss the game. He was told to self-isolate on Wednesday after close contact with Stuart Armstrong, who has tested positive at Scotland’s training camp.
