Nicolas Kuhn has got everyone talking about his impressive statistics this season but the Celtic winger’s focus remains on the present rather than setting targets.

Kuhn shrugged off a knee injury to score his 13th goal of the season on Boxing Day when he fired home a deflected strike in a 4-0 win against Motherwell.

The 24-year-old has also delivered 11 assists in the most fruitful season of his career.

The former Germany youth international hit a previous career-high five goals last season in a campaign split between Rapid Vienna and Celtic and interrupted by dental surgery that affected his strength and fitness.

Kuhn returned with a bang in pre-season with his pace, skill and final ball making him arguably Celtic’s best player so far.

He is taking the new-found expectations in his stride and refusing to look beyond Sunday’s visit of St Johnstone.

Kuhn said: “I don’t really set targets. The most important thing for me is to stay fit after a full pre-season with the team.

“I have felt fit all season so hopefully it will be fine and I am back 100 per cent soon.

“This has been my best return now and there are still a lot of games to come.

“You can’t play in all of them but I am happy to be back and I want to continue. My ambitions are just to stay fit and keep going.”

Celtic missed Kuhn in a goalless encounter against Dundee United last weekend as they dropped William Hill Premiership points for only the second time this season.

After netting off the bench against Motherwell, Kuhn said of his knee: “It was still a bit painful but it was good to be back. The goal was not the nicest I’ve scored but I will take it.

“It’s nice to pick up where I left off. I just tried to continue the way I’ve started this season and I was happy to get the goal. But the most important thing was the three points.

“I feel good. I am really happy at the club, with the team and all the people here. I enjoy playing.

“Do I have a taste for goals? Yes. Maybe at the end I could have taken another shot but I wanted to get the assist. It’s nice to assist too.”
