Rangers midfielder Nicholas Raskin has said “there is no need for extra pressure” ahead of Sunday’s blockbuster Old Firm clash.
The build-up to the derby has been surrounded by controversial comments from Luke McCowan, Danny Rohl, and Martin O’Neil.
From McCowan saying that “no team can touch us in the SPFL”, Danny Rohl’s “interesting” query about Celtic’s ongoing goalkeeper situation, to O’Neil’s “he’s not been in Glasgow long” reponse, it has been a build up full of thunder.
However, Raskin has said he “doesn’t care” and just wants to show what he can do on the pitch on Sunday, saying there is “no need for extra pressure”.
“Do I need to respond”, he said, when asked about McCowan’s ‘untouchable’ claim. “I just don’t care.”
“We just need to focus on ourself and what we need to do. And we will see on Sunday.
“We just focus on preparing for the game as much as we can. There is no need for extra pressure.”
“It’s about showing it on the pitch. We want to give back to the fans, it’s a massive game for everyone.”
Ahead of Sunday’s clash, Rangers sit four points behind Hearts, while Celtic sit six points with a game in hand.
Hearts take on Aberdeen on Saturday, knowing a victory will put pull them away from at least one – if not both – of the Old Firm sides.
However, Raskin does not think Sunday’s game will be win or bust for the league title.
“I think that there will be a lot of points dropped by a lot of teams toward the end of the season, but a victory gives you a big boost and confidence throughout the season.
“It’s about making sure we get the win and then looking forward to the next one.”
