Jimmy Thelin is relishing taking charge of his first Aberdeen home match when Premier Sports Cup Group A rivals Airdrie visit Pittodrie on Tuesday.
Both sides have taken maximum points from their opening two games, with the Diamonds top of the section on goal difference.
Thelin’s side have enjoyed comfortable away wins over Queen of the South and East Kilbride and now the Swede, who took the reins earlier this summer, is hoping his side can leapfrog the Championship outfit with victory on his Pittodrie bow.
“It’s going to be really nice to play at home and get the feeling of that and meet the supporters there – everything surrounding playing at home for the first time at this club, I’m looking forward to it,” said Thelin. “I’m really excited. Hopefully it is going to be a good evening.”
Aberdeen’s summer has been clouded by uncertainty over Bojan Miovski, with the talismanic North Macedonia forward yet to feature amid speculation linking him with a move.
The striker was not in the squad against Queens and was an unused substitute at East Kilbride.
“He will be in the squad (against Airdrie),” said Thelin. “So far everything is like it was last week and tomorrow he will be in the squad ready to play. In the beginning he was not 100%, but now he is 100%.
“We had a talk before the first cup game as there were a lot of things going around him, so we calmed down the situation a little bit and focused on the training. Now he is ready to play again and that is where we are right now.”
Dundee’s top-of-the-table showdown with Annan in Group A will take place at Brechin’s Glebe Park to allow their pitch at Dens Park to bed in.
Assistant boss Stuart Taylor is adamant giving up home advantage will not prove detrimental for the Dark Blues, who have already won away to Bonnyrigg and Arbroath.
“It’s not frustrating at all because the most important thing was making sure the pitch at Dens was ready for the first league game of the season,” he said.
“The club have looked to go and get a pitch close by for the supporters first and foremost, so they can come in their numbers because they were fantastic for us last season. That was a big thing the club looked at and getting Brechin, the pitch is good. It’s a pitch our lads will enjoy playing on.
“With this group of players, you could go anywhere, they just love going on the pitch. They’re in a really good place at this moment in time.”
Dundee United, who lost their opener at Falkirk, will be looking to make it three wins on the spin away to Buckie, while St Johnstone will be bidding to tighten their grip on top spot in Group F with victory at second-placed Alloa and Ross County will be eyeing a third consecutive win at Hamilton.
