Neil Warnock believes Bojan Miovski is the best striker he’s worked with in his 44 years in management.
Miovski was the standout player as the Dons progressed to the quarter-final of the Scottish Gas Scottish Cup with victory over Bonnyrigg Rose, netting twice including a superb half-volley in an otherwise lacklustre Aberdeen performance.
Indeed, their League Two opponents could themselves have had at least a goal in an impressive performance, denied only by Nicky Devlin’s goal-line clearance from a Smart Osadolor strike with the score at 1-0 to the home side.
Interim Aberdeen boss Warnock said of Miovski: “He’s just a top finisher. I’ve always struggled with strikers, throughout my career. I’ve been good at goalies, centre halves and midfielders but never really on a striker.
“Ironic, isn’t it, that coming to this stage of my career I’ve got probably the best one I’ve ever had.
“I’ve had a message from [Morton manager] Dougie Imrie saying he hopes to get us in the next round, so he must be confident after beating Motherwell. I think we can give anybody a good game, but it’d be good to have a home tie.”
The Dons host Motherwell on cinch Premiership duty in midweek, sitting ninth and six points clear of danger, with Warnock adding: “I think we can improve on where we are. The Rangers game showed me it’s within the camp, but it’s a challenge. There are no guarantees.
“I’m sure Motherwell and then Hibs will think differently and give us a good game.”
For visiting manager Robbie Horn, securing a strong finish in cinch League Two is now the target.
Horn said: “We stayed up by the skin of our teeth last season and this year was about consolidation.
“If you get close enough to the play-offs then fair enough you go and challenge, but the league is so tight and some of the teams are spending a hell of a lot of money to get them out of where they are.
“Our next game is against East Fife who’ve just appointed Dick Campbell, so in the space of two weeks I’ll have come up against two of the big characters in British football!”
