Kilmarnock will take on Aberdeen for the second successive weekend

Neil McCann: League Cup semi-final spot would put shine on Kilmarnock’s seasonSNS Group

Neil McCann believes Kilmarnock can put an “early shine” on the season by reaching the Premier Sports Cup semi-final.

The Rugby Park side earned their first point of the league campaign after a goalless draw with Aberdeen on Saturday, but the club remain rooted to the bottom of the Scottish Premiership table.

The two sides are set to meet again in this weekend’s cup quarter-final in Ayrshire, and the Killie boss has urged his side to book a spot at Hampden.

“I said to them in there I wasn’t overly celebrating a point. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not in here saying, oh you’ve cracked it. We’ve not, I’m more focused on that performance,” said McCann.

“And that was a performance from a group of guys that completely know where they want to go.

“Next week is that chance to get to Hampden. This club should really, really back for. I think it’s a fantastic chance for us to put a wee shine already on an early season.”

The Rugby Park club have suffered four defeats from five league games this season.
