Steven Hammell is looking forward to hosting Rangers in Sunday’s live TV Premiership clash and says it is a game his player should relish.

The Steelmen could potentially move up to fourth with a win depending on other results on Saturday and the manager insists they will be looking to take all three points.

It’s the first of three big home games in a hectic week for Motherwell with the League Cup quarter-final against Celtic on Wednesday and the visit of Aberdeen in Premiership action the following Saturday.

Hammell said: “We are looking forward to it like we look forward to every game.

“It’s a big week for us, we have three games, three good games to be involved in as a player, I believe it’s a platform to progress as a team and individually.

“We know it’s going to be difficult, but we’ve put as much preparation into it as we possibly can, and we will be as ready as we can be.

Rangers go into the game on the back of their worst defeat in 65 years following Wednesday nights 7-1 loss to Liverpool at Ibrox.

But while Hammell concedes that it won’t be a familiar feeling for them to be on the end of such a heavy defeat, he says he can only control his own team rather than second guessing how his opponents will react.

He said: “It’s not a result they will be used to being on the end of but we can’t control the way they react to that, all we can do is be as prepared as we possibly can be.

“Every game we play and every team we play while I am here, we will be looking for ways to hurt the opposition and that won’t change.

“No matter who we are playing we will be looking at how we can win the game, we have done that every game so far and it won’t change going forward, it’s about what we do.

“We can’t control how they react or how they have dealt with things since that but what we can do is control what we’ve got here and how we approach the game.”
