Motherwell manager Michael Wimmer has seen the benefit of Lennon Miller’s stint with Scotland – and the space his international players left for other young players to catch his eye.
Miller did not feature in the Nations League play-off against Greece but Wimmer feels the experience of being with Steve Clarke’s squad for the first time was a major step forward for the 18-year-old midfielder.
“If you get this experience to work with this coach and also to work with these players, with players like (John) McGinn for example or also (Andy) Robertson, with the Premier League players,” Wimmer said.
“This experience; if you sit with them and you eat together and you see them in the dressing room and you see their work ethic, you can learn every day.
“I think for Lennon it was the best thing to work 10 days or seven days with the A team. Absolutely, he benefited from this week.”
The likes of Kofi Balmer, Ewan Wilson, Tawanda Maswanhise and Kai Andrews were also away on international duty.
Wimmer said: “The group was a little bit smaller because the players were from the national team. We also had many players from the academy, from the under-18s.
“I got a good picture from them and it was very interesting to see the guys also on the pitch.
“You see players like Max Johnston and Lennon Miller getting time with the national team. This is the way from Motherwell.
“There are many interesting young players. They proved this during training last week.”
Motherwell return to William Hill Premiership action on Saturday when they take on Aberdeen and they will have around 700 fans at Pittodrie after supporters took advantage of £10 tickets to sell out the away allocation.
“This is brilliant,” Wimmer said. “It’s our job to make the fans happy.
“We need the fans, the fans need the players. If we have a great togetherness, I think everything is possible.”
