Michael Wimmer is eagerly awaiting his first home match as Motherwell boss despite starting his reign with a defeat to Dundee United on Saturday.
A solitary Sam Dalby goal consigned Well to a sixth defeat in a row in all competitions.
But the warm welcome Wimmer received from the travelling support at Tannadice has left the former Austria Vienna manager excited for his first match at Fir Park against Dundee on Wednesday.
“I’m really looking forward to my first home game but I also want to thank the fans,” the 44-year-old said.
“It was a really warm welcome. The support was great until the final whistle and so was the applause after the game.
“So I can imagine what it will be like on Wednesday. The fans will support us and we want to use their energy. I’m very optimistic.”
Wimmer is keen to implement his ideas as quickly as possible and he knows that will be a lot easier if Motherwell can return to winning ways.
He added: “If we get results, you get more confidence and if you get more confidence it’s easier for me to bring new ideas into the team. We have to find the right balance, keep it simple and work hard.
“We need to have the right energy and I saw this in the second half. I’m very optimistic that we can work with the second half and the guys will bring a similar performance on Wednesday.”
United’s win came at a cost with skipper Ross Docherty having to hobble off in the first half.
However, boss Jim Goodwin believes the business the club did in the last transfer window, bringing in the likes of former Manchester City youngster Lewis Fiorini, means he has cover in the middle of the park.
The manager said: “We need as many options as we can which is why we did the business we did in January.
“We wanted to strengthen that midfield area which is why we brought the likes of Fiorini in.
“It gives me great options now especially in the week we have with three games in eight days.
“We ask a lot of the players when they are out there so it gives us a chance to freshen things up if we have to.
“All in all, I am really satisfied with the game and the end result.
“Obviously the disappointment is losing Ross Docherty.”
