A memorial service is to take place following the death of Rangers legend Walter Smith.

Smith died last week at the age of 73, and will be remembered as one of the greatest figures in Scotland’s football history.

While the memorial at Glasgow Cathedral on Friday, November 19 will be invite-only to attend, it will be streamed for free on Rangers TV.

A private funeral will take place on Wednesday, November 3, with the cortège passing Ibrox at 3.15pm, entering from Helen Street and heading towards Paisley Road West, before re-joining the motorway.

Tributes flooded in from across world football following the death of Smith, who won 21 major honours in two spells as Rangers manager.

He also managed Everton and had a stint as Alex Ferguson’s assistant manager at Manchester United.

Rangers said: “The club would like to put on record its thanks to our supporters, supporters of other clubs and the wider community for their kind words and support at this difficult time.”
